Tell the leaders of Canada's political parties
that you care about peace in Darfur
Subject:
What will you and your party do for Darfur and for Sudan?
Dear ___,
I am writing to ask what you and your party are doing about the situation in Darfur and all of Sudan. It has been over a year since the World Food Program cut food rations in Darfur by half. The main reason for this was insecurity. Too many food trucks were not reaching their destination. It is even more alarming to see that there has been an increase in violence in the South. Most experts agree that there is a grave danger than North and South Sudan will return to total war sometime in the next 14 months. If this happens, it will result in even greater bloodshed and suffering that what we have seen in Darfur. The Canadian government can do a lot to improve the situation in Sudan. Most importantly, there is much work to be done at a diplomatic level, especially in supporting the political processes that can increase the chances of lasting peace in Darfur and between North and South Sudan. There are a number of non-controvertial ways that the Canadian government could make an important difference in these areas. We could be doing a lot more. I look forward to hearing what you and your party will do to increase its commitments to humanitarian needs in Sudan and, more importantly, to working to support a lasting peace. Sincerely,
