Accomplishments in 2008/2009 and upcoming initiatives
In 2008/2009, The Darfur/Sudan Peace Network hosted a national postcard campaign, launched an e-tool for emailing federal elections candidates, developed the first bilingual website for Canadian Darfur advocates, and led a variety of advocacy initiatives in collaboration with member organizations across the country. Through our campaigns, over 50,000 messages have been sent to politicians. These campaigns have involved our 30 member organizations and over 100 other groups across the country.
In the coming months, The Darfur/Sudan Peace Network will be launching a new national campaign for organizations and individuals across the country, and engaging new demographics with this campaign. We are also working to expand our collaborations with Darfuri and Sudanese diaspora communities in Canada, and increase our direct engagement of Canadian decision-makers on Sudan policy. At this time, we are seeking support to expand our engagement of politicians, and to lauch and sustain our new Voices for Peace campaign. Please help us to make these intitiatives as strong as possible.
How your donation makes a difference
100% of money donated is used to encourage the Canadian government to sustain and increase its commitments to Darfur. The Canadian government contributes well over 100 million dollars per year to peacekeeping, humanitarian needs and other efforts for Sudan. The most effective way for us to use donations is to push the Canadian government to sustain and increase these multi-million dollar committments. For this purpose, the Darfur/Sudan Peace Network leads and coordinates Darfur/Sudan advocacy efforts across the country. We work with members and partners to put direct pressure on decision makers and we run campaigns to demonstrate to the government that there is broad public support for action in Darfur/Sudan. Donations from individuals and small groups are essential to making sure that Canada sustains and increases its contributions.
Tax receipts
The Darfur/Sudan Peace Network is a not-for-profit organization, but does not qualify for charitable status under Canadian law because our work has an advocacy focus. This unfortunately means that donations to the DSPN are not tax-deductible. If you would like to be sent a receipt for your donation anyways, please let us know.
Thank you very much for your support!
