Information for potential members of the coalition
Become a Member

Thank you for taking interest in becoming a member of the Darfur/Sudan Peace Network. The information below is intended for organizations, groups and associations that are interested in becoming members of the coalition. Individuals are not considered "members" of the coalition, but nevertheless play a very important role in our work – if you would like to be involved as an individual, we encourage you to subscribe to our email list (through the link in the upper right-hand corner).

A Not-For-Profit Coalition
The Darfur/Sudan Peace Network is a national not-for-profit organization based out of Montreal, Quebec, and is the only bilingual organization mandated to undertake sustained Darfur and Sudan advocacy in Canada. All of our funding goes towards Darfur and Sudan advocacy work in Canada, with most coming from individual and small group donors. Click here for more information about us.

What we stand for: All our member organizations and groups have endorsed the Darfur/Sudan Peace Network Unity Statement, which outlines the solutions that our coalition supports to end the current crisis in Darfur. Our policies promote international engagement through a UN-sanctioned framework, and solutions to lay the groundwork for long lasting peace in Darfur and the whole of Sudan. If you would like to become a member of the Peace Network coalition, simply look over our Unity Statement, and send an email indicating your interest to membership@peacenetwork.ca. We are always happy to welcome new members.

The Darfur/Sudan Peace Network does not advocate for types of Canadian or international involvement in Darfur or Sudan that lie outside the scope of the Peace Network's Unity Statement (which all members have endorsed). Any substantive policy shifts or new policy areas will be integrated into the Unity Statement, and members will be consulted on the changes before they come in to effect. Groups may withdraw their membership at any time.

Membership
Members of the Darfur/Sudan Peace Network are organizations, groups and associations across the country who endorse the objectives of the coalition’s work. Relatively few members participate in the Peace Network’s day-to-day activities, though the majority will at times participate in our campaigns, or communicate information about our work to their constituents. Individuals can sign up to receive regular Peace Network communications and advocacy resources, but cannot themselves become members. There are no fees or obligations to participate in Darfur/Sudan Peace Network activities when becoming a member. We encourage participation in national campaigns and activities and create special resources to help member organizations do so, but some signatories will inevitably support us in name only. Other groups and organizations play an essential role in stengthening Darfur and Sudan advocacy in Canada.
