On July 12th, the ICC indicted President Bashir on three counts of genocide. Though there is little possibility for al-Bashir’s immediate arrest, these new charges bring important legal and emotional implications to al-Bashir’s already damaged international reputation. It is significant that the international community hold responsible the perpetrators of the violence and atrocities in Darfur, and though it may be difficult to determine the immediate affect of this ruling, it is clear that this is a step forward for justice and against impunity.

Update on food insecurity in South Sudan and Darfur

The World Food Program in Sudan aims to feed 11 million people this year. From 2009 to 2010, the number of people in southern Sudan in need of food aid has quadrupled to almost 4.3 million people.

This food crisis has been fueled by drought and increasing insecurity among the region. This has had the effect of lowering livestock prices and raising food prices. Forced migration caused by recent fighting has resulted in many leaving their land and livelihoods as well.

Learn more and take action. Send the Prime Minister 15 grams (four teaspoons) of rice, beans, or lentils, along with a letter.
