L'ÉQUIPE GAGNANTE DU PREMIER DÉFI EN 2008/2009!
Les membres de l'équipe gagnante de Magee Secondary School à Vancouver
Mots de l'équipe :
"The reason why action in Darfur is important to our small group of six students who are members of the Darfur club at our school is because we strongly believe in the fundamental freedoms that are present in Canada and believe that everyone in the world has a right to these. We are angered when we hear that innocent civilians are being murdered and brutally tortured and understand that it is up to the developed countries to lend a hand to end this genocide.
At school we learn about the Holocaust and how six million Jews were killed because of their religious beliefs. And now we read in the news that yet again one group of people is after another and that the world is standing by and watching.
Our group wants to do everything it can to help end this genocide and being part of the Darfur Challenge is proving to be a great way to do just that.
Our group meets every Monday at lunch and discusses issues that Darfur is currently facing. We often watch YouTube videos to get a visual picture of what is taking place. It took a lot of planning to get so many postcards signed. We decided that the most effective way would be to get as many signed as possible at school. We talked to each social studies teacher at our school and they each agreed to distribute and then collect the postcards in their classes. This worked very well to not only get many postcards signed but many of the teachers took time out of their classes to also teach their students about the current genocide in Darfur."
